Chapter 01 - Shading a ball @ GFX-Tutorial

In this chapter I will use images to illustrate (I really love to illutrate things), and the image to the left will show what's added in its correct color and the older changes in bright blue. The one to the right will show the full thing at that stage. The images are slightly resized because it is easier to see the changes and pixles. I made them two times larger.

In this chapter I used just three colors of two reasons, one is that I am lazy, but the other one is that this chapter now illustrates how you can make shaded balls with a very limited palette. In this example, just three colors. Black and white and a shade of grey.

Begin with a simple circle, like in chapter one.

Now fill the whole thing with a grey color, preferably the one that is completely grey, with exactly as much white as black. RGB-value: 127,127,127.

Now, in the bottom right, fill in with black dots that are going to be fewer and fewer more to the end of the black. I.e. thicker black att the base, and thinner (more grey) more to the middle. A trick here is to fill the parts that should have even the smallest pixel black, and then paint grey dots. I have found this easier, but it is up to you to decide.

Now do the same with white up in the upper left of the circle.

The finished thing should look something like this:
